Let’s spice up our country rhythm guitar even more! In this guitar lesson, I’ll teach you a classic country rhythm guitar pattern and we’ll practice using a progression in the style of “Choices” by George Jones. I’ll also show you some old school melodic country fills in the Key of D. We’ll break down the entire practice progression with tablature and I’ll give you some helpful country rhythm tips throughout the guitar lesson. After you master the progression, practice along with George Jones! Download tablature below the video.
Practice picking your country rhythm over the song “Choices” by George Jones. Play “Choices” below using the embedded player from Spotify. We’d highly recommend using Spotify for online radio. In this guitar lesson, we’ll apply several of the country riffs we’ve studied in this course by learning how to play two country lead guitar solos in D over “I’m From The Country” by Tracy Byrd. Before we learn the solos with tablature, I’ll give you a quick overview of how the solos are structured around the rhythm guitar chord progression. After you master the solos, practice along with our full-length country backing track in D.

Here’re some other good country songs in the key of D for practicing your country lead guitar…
In this video, I’ll show you the two mid-range acoustic guitars I use for country & bluegrass. These are the two guitars you see in most of the lesson videos. They’re not that expensive, but I think both of them have a nice natural wood tone that works well in country & bluegrass. The first one is a 1999 Martin D-15 (Martin has recently changed the name to D-15M) and the second is a 2009 Martin D-16GT. If you’re in the market for an acoustic guitar in this price range, I’d always recommend buying used because you can get much more guitar for your money.
Also in this video, I’ll show you my favorite guitar capo for country & bluegrass, my favorite guitar strings for country & bluegrass, some bone bridge pins that’ll give your guitar extra sustain, and a couple other random tips you might find useful.
