Bluegrass Open Licks ChartCheck out our brand new fill riff and lead guitar series at CGO! Course Outline
The scale chart below shows all the notes that are commonly played in key of G open bluegrass licks. They’re called “open” licks or open riffs because they incorporate a lot of hammer-ons and pull-offs to and from the open strings. The black dots highlight the notes of the major scale that are commonly played in open G licks, the red dots are the minor pentatonic scale notes, and the blue dots are the added notes from the blues scale. You can clamp on your capo to play these licks at any location on the neck. We’ll be posting several video lessons that show how you can use this chart to create your own tasteful bluegrass open G licks.
