Lesson ID: A0180
In this video, I’ll show you the basics of how to use Guitar Pro tablature software. I use Guitar Pro for creating all my guitar lesson tablature files and I use it all the time for tabbing out different licks and things that I come up with. In this lesson, we’ll be tabbing out a 12 bar blues progression that we’ll borrow from the song “Blues Stay Away From Me” in the style of Merle Haggard. We’ll have a link below this video where you can download a trial of Guitar Pro tab software and we’ll also have a button for downloading the tablature that goes along with this lesson.
I’ll be posting a complete lesson teaching “Blues Stay Away From Me” in the style of Merle Haggard sometime next week but here’s a Guitar Pro tab software demo for anybody interested! Hope y’all are having a nice weekend – Devin
Appreciate the overview of the software. Can’t wait for the “Blues Stay Away From Me” lesson. A classic and favorite of mine.
Hey Devin how’s it going? I didn’t know you were using guitar pro. I got my own guitar pro and it is a very useful tool for musicians. Like the way you teach it. Have a nice evening.
Thanks for the Software tutorial…. I just bought GPro and this has really helped me get started.
What…..the hat, the hat. I cannot learn w/o the hat.
This is very cool! I wondered how the heck you did the tabs on these lessons.
Nice again
Love guitar pro. This has been a real helpful lesson for me. I just got guitar pro 7. Do you know any short cuts for how to insert notes with out copying over the existing? Some time when I’m transcribing I realize that I missed something then I go to insert something and end up copying over the notes in front of it.
Yeah, I know what you’re talking about… You just have to select the note just after the place where you want to insert the extra note… then go to the top menu and select Note > Insert a Beat. That will insert the note just before the one you have highlighted. Hope that helps!
is it free?
can you ukulele music on Guitar Pro tab software?
You can tab ukulele also — see the screenshot. This option screen comes up right after you click New File. You can download a trial of the software for free to see if you like it and then I believe it’s $69.95 USD for the full version. Worth the investment for sure!
thanks!
can you add lyrics on Guitar Pro tab software?

You click the “Lyrics” button… top left on the left sidebar panel. Type in the box that pops up and adding a space between the words when you type moves the location of the words from one note to the next…so you can enter a few spaces between a word and that’ll move it over three notes or so. You have to have notes entered in the tablature first though. Hope that helps!
cool thanks
That was an excellent lesson. I’ve got the software (an older version) and haven’t read the manual, it’s been on my list, but never made it to the top. Your teaching style is very thorough and you make the lessons fun to watch. I’ll tab out some rifs tonight. Thanks again.
