What kind of guitar humidifier do you use? I use the OH-1 guitar humidifier from Oasis. It is designed to maintain 45-55% relative humidity inside the guitar body. And you...?
Wow this is something I've not thought of. Although my friend told me he had a d15 that really suffered with the humidity. That's another reason why I was asking people's preferences Rosewood or Maghogony. Very interesting
Keep on Picking 🙂
I saw on the web the damage on a guitar...it really scared me, no kidding.
I use the tube type humidifier that Martin has. It fits into the sound hole thru the strings. This is the time of year here in the North to make work of humidifying the guitar and the inside of your case as well. Check out Randy Schartiger on You Tube. His website is the House that never sleeps. I thought I was doing everything right until my top split when my guitar was five years old.
I live in Quebec and sudden changes in temperature are frequent that’s why I take care of my instrument. My oasis humidifier system is the same as you describe Jim....take care! Thanks for Randy Shartiger video.
I have a couple types. But the Dampit ( larger size one ) seems to work better if the air is really dry. I also keep a digital humidifier gage in the guitar case, as it provides a better reading of the quitar conditions.
Hey Scooter what kind digital humidifier gage do you have?
I use Cigar Oasis Caliber IV Digital Hygromter - I think it was about US$24.00. There are many brands/types to choose from.
Good luck.
Thanks Scooter...
I hear you. Especially the dry heat during the winter months. It's not ideal for acoustics, that's for sure!
You’re right Jon.
yes mainly if you have a shinny finish (nitrocellulose , pu lacquer varnish)
the nitrocellulose is more flexible and let the wood works and breath instead of the other giving a hard coat non breathable which cracks after difference of temperature , problem of humidity etc ...
but a mirror finish is just stunning
I saw Dennis Zager save a horribly dried out guitar. He took a zip lock bag, cut slits in it and put a moderately damp cloth in it and put it in the guitar. Now that’s all I use. I do still keep my humidifier running in my practice area day and night.
@jimjsdewitt-comJim, is your guitar that split. Mohagany?
