This may be a dumb question, but do strings get too old to use? I've got a few unused, new sets that I've had for awhile, like for years, that I found in the back of a drawer when we moved. Just wondering if they get a "dead" sound if they're old like that. Â
I watched videos yesterday that said to boil them!Â
@jerseychicadee I read that somewhere that you could do that if you wanted to take an old set off of your guitar and boil them to try and get some new life out of them. Probably won't do that, LOL.Â
I think if they are unused they should be fine. Normally they go bad from dead skin cells and oils from your fingers. Do the still look shiny?
@rinny51Â I think so, haven't even opened the package yet. Guess if they were dull and/or rusty they wouldn't be any good for playing.
I tend to buy lots of strings at once. I've had strings rust in their packaging from long storage but that's exceptional. Chances are your strings are fine. Rust will be obvious once you open them. No dark spots, no rust, install and enjoy.
@oldtimeplayer Thanks, Brian! I hoped that this was the case, but you never know! I've assumed things and have been wrong before. 😊Â
maybe you should make one of the videos like they do on youtube where they open up packages and try things so we can all see 😆Â
I hope i'am never that broke that I have to boil my old string's. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀Â
@rinny51Â Ha! Yeah that could be interesting, or it just might be really boring. 😉Â
