Bryan Sutton is definitely one of the best flatpickers alive today. He plays with a uniquely smooth tone even when he’s picking super fast, and one of the ways he does this is with sweep picking. In this lesson we’ll go over an awesome bluegrass sweep picking lick that Bryan Sutton uses regularly in his flatpicking.
In these guitar lesson videos, you’ll learn some country and bluegrass guitar licks built around the 1st position of the G minor pentatonic scale. Each week, we’ll post new country guitar licks built around various positions of the pentatonic scales and the blues scales. The goal in all of these lessons is for you to keep adding to your bag of licks so you can create the foundation you need to play country and bluegrass lead guitar all the way up and down the fretboard.
In this guitar lesson, you’ll learn an awesome country and bluegrass guitar lick that starts out with a Bryan Sutton style roll guitar lick. The great thing about this lick is it helps you practice transitioning your lead guitar up the fretboard and back down towards the nut. This is a more challenging lick, but it will definitely push your country and bluegrass guitar playing to the next level.
In this guitar lesson video, you’ll learn one of my favorite bluegrass guitar riffs in the key of G. I’m going to keep posting guitar riff/lick lessons similar to this one, and the end goal is for you to expand your “bag of licks” to where you’re able to improvise and create interesting guitar solos when you’re jamming with other musicians. These licks can be played over just about any bluegrass or country song!
