Ah, I see. Thought it would probably pop up on YouTube at some point, but it was kind of fun to watch it live, too. Haven't seen live music in a long time.
We have the Musical Instrument Museum here in Phoenix and they have a fantastic venue for live music. We've seen Suzy Boggus a couple of times, the Milk Carton Kids, Michael Nesmith, Judy Collins, and others I just can't think of right now. Oh, one that I just remembered is Jeff Peterson, the Hawaiian slack key player. We saw him and Uncle George a couple of times there, too. Jeff Peterson is a wonderful slack key player.
I saw The Monkees a million years ago. Mike was my crush. My bestie already had claimed Davy.Â
Wow, Jersychicadee, how lucky were you to be able to see the Monkees live! I think we're the same age and I was really young when they were popular with their show and all. (Michael Nesmith always said, "The Monkees is a TV show, not a band." LOL) My mom would have never let me see a live band when I was that young.Â
They came to the Steel Pier in Atlantic City I think they lip synced it was just screaming little girls. I’ll be 65 in June. My bestie was a year older than me. Her older brother took us.Â
We didn't get too many big names when I was a kid and I wasn't real interested anyway but I did see Elvis and Alice Cooper.Â
Now that would be nice. Elvis.Â
I spent most of my teens and early 20's in the high desert of California, about 40 miles or so north of Los Angeles. Lived in a tiny town by the name of Acton, and the closest "big" towns were Palmdale and Lancaster. Emmy Lou Harris came to the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds in Lancaster to perform and we did go an see her. I never understood why on earth she would come to the Antelope Valley because this was like at the height of her career, more or less. But she put on a good show.Â
Canned Heat played at a bar in Lancaster in the 70's but this was after Bear had died. It was just a so-so show.Â
Can't think of any other big names that came anywhere close to where I lived during that time.Â
Canned Heat used to come up to Mendocino in the summer. In the 80’s and play at the Caspar Inn. A small wood, paint all flaked off, ex merchantile store with gas pumps out front and hitching posts and a trough out front turned in to o a hippie bar. Even had rooms upstairs where the brothel used to flourish.Â
@jerseychicadee That sounds a lot like Gruene hall in New Braunfels, Texas. It was built in the 1800's and is still going strong as far as I know. Some of the biggest names have played there. I was there about 40 years ago.
