@shysueWhat about the Martin do you like better, the way it plays, the sound or both? What are the differences in sound?
@rg The Martin has a "boomier" sound, the low strings seem to have so much more bass to them. But the treble is fine, too. It just has an overall warmer sound to it, for lack of a better word. The action on it is perfect so it plays great; it had a good set up on it when I bought it. I still like my Taylor, just don't play it as often. The Martin is my "go to" guitar now.
@rinny51 I play an Academy 12e. I keep it next to my bed and play it at night.
@shysue I’ve been drooling all over the PRS but haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet.
Would love to have a Collings D2H if I could find a good used one.
@alexcontinilive-co-uk I have an 8 year old BR180N and its just getting better with age.
Hi all,
I'm looking at an upgrade and had been looking at a Martin from their lower price range, but after some research I've seen a lot of great reviews for Seagull guitars and the S6 appears to be amazing value for money. Does anyone have experience with both a lower end Martin and a Seagull that can share their thoughts?
Thanks
I have an Art&Lutherie which is made by Godin. It is my favorite guitar out of my 5. A Taylor, Fender,Gretchen, Recording King. The Fender has the best fret work by far. My A&L just feels best on my lap. When I go in a guitar store, I like a Martin for the way the neck and width of the fret board. It feels flatter and a tinsy bit wider but I prefer a small guitar. I like the way my fingers fit it. Dreads are like hugging a Great Dane on your lap for me.
Value for money Blueridge BR180, (Martin D45 model)
Well the guy I bought my Eastman E1d from, also sells the Seagull and here he is comparing it with the Eastman which I own. You can hear the difference and see what you think.
I watch his videos all the time when shopping guitar models. He’s very clear, plays basic chords and strumming, doesn’t divert. As he started the comparison, I thought that S6 sounds pretty good. He said it was gonna be a little ‘mean.’ I thought, uh oh, that Eastman is going to sound a lot better. When he went from the Eastman to the Seagull it made me grimace. It actually hurt my sinuses! Damn you Dom! Just pushed the Seagull down a step or two. Now I want an Eastman... Add another one to the list.......

The Eastman sounded better than the Seagull, for sure. I've heard a lot of good things about Eastman and I think they're all made in China but very quality made.
Right? He said they’re handmade kind of confused me
The owner was a student in Massachusetts I believe, and moved home to Beijing in the early nineties and started making violins and cellos. Then they got into mandolins and guitars. They now make brass instruments as well I think. They are a lot more "handmade" than most guitars these days, for what that's worth.
Eastman acoustics are highly regarded over at Acoustic guitar Forum, though they are not as cheap as they once were. I would certainly check out the OM version of mine (E1om or the E2CD cedar topped version) since I know you like smaller bodies. Of course we are blessed right now anyway with so many other options.
