Each song I looked up has a strum pattern by a different country artist. Is the student expected to learn all the strums or just choose a few, that’s most appealing to him? Are there strums that are considered essential for country solos?
I play bluegrass and play a typical boom-Chuck pattern. I plan to go heavier into country soloing.

At least you seem to know what you generally want to accomplish. That makes you way ahead of me. Devin's lessons are put together in a way to offer lots of options. Record yourself and if it sounds good to you, you must have done something right.
