Quick question for y'all...
Over the past couple of years, I've been focusing really hard on recording and producing music. I've learned a ton of stuff and I'd be really excited to share it with everyone if there's any interest...
The lesson videos could cover anything from what gear works the best for recording acoustic guitar, vocals, and other stringed instruments (my favorite mics, interfaces, mic placement, setting levels, tips and tricks for using Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and more).
We could look at different plugins for mixing, how to mix/master songs, how to produce country/bluegrass music, etc. The sky is the limit really...I just wanted to put this out there to see if there's interest. These lessons would probably be posted to a specific section of Country Guitar Online -- an area of the site devoted to producing country and bluegrass music and everything that goes along with it.
I'm sure most people aren't interested in becoming a music producer as a career, but learning to record high-quality sounding acoustic guitar and vocals is a lot of fun, and speaking from experience, I've noticed that my guitar skills have improved so much faster since I've been recording acoustic guitar tracks on the daily. The whole process of recording with the goal of making a song puts you in a different state of mind when you're playing and there's something about it that elevates your playing when you do it regularly.
Anyways, let me know what y'all think!

I'm very interested, I've been wanting to do this for a while now! I'm excited about it.
Hello Devin,
I've got some home recording experience but only with electric guitar (once I recorder something with the resonator guitar) so these video lessons would be very useful!
What do you think about Garageband? I know it is limited compared to Logic Pro but it has quite the same interface and for pre-production stuff IMO is good. Never tried pro-tools (only in professional studios with my band's recording).
@alberto-pai I agree, Garage Band works great for basic recordings. I started with Garage Band myself and eventually had to upgrade to Logic because you can't add many plugins to tracks in Garage Band...and because of other limitations. Garage Band is still really nice though! I haven't used Studio One but I've heard it's nice also. For me, I was getting a little more serious about producing so I switched over to Pro Tools. I always heard there was a big learning curve with Pro Tools, but it seems pretty intuitive once you get going with it. I like the grid in Pro Tools a lot and I think it's much easier to make edits in Pro Tools vs. Logic for things like sliding audio clips around, crossfades, etc. I also just like the layout of Pro Tools the best, but all the DAWs are cool for different reasons.

You are obviously passionate about all this Devin and the fact that the producing side has actually improved the playing side of your music is also motivating, but for me, it's not something I'm chomping at the bit to learn. However, one never knows how one's goals change as time goes by so I appreciate your efforts and maybe at some point, the information will come in handy.
@devin I agree with everything. IMO Logic Pro and GarageBand are good for home recording, Pro Tools for professional stuff (all my band's albums has been recorded with Pro Tools).
So you are orientated to Pro Tools for the lessons?
I'll be interested to watch it, but I don't think I'll really use recording and producing lessons,...
I'll watch it Devin I've been wanting to learn how to record.
@lc I write some songs, but my girlfriend does a lot of songwriting and I've been working on producing her album...so she sings, writes the lyrics and vocal melodies, and I do the instruments and all that. I'll share some songs with y'all once we get a few finished up!
