Guitar Playing Tragedy (finger injury)

A few days ago my husband cut the tip of his left ring finger off! Just sliced off the callous and then some when he was cutting up some veggies for a salad. It was really gross with blood all over the place. The first thing I thought when I saw it was, "Well, there goes his guitar playing for awhile." But he bandaged it up tightly and was trying to play this weekend. If you've ever tried to play guitar with a bandage on one of your fretting fingers you know how cumbersome that is, but he just kept trying.

A few years ago I had the misfortune of slicing the tip of my middle finger, left hand, on a potato peeler in the kitchen drawer. Just jammed that finger right into the damn thing. There was a gash deep enough to affect the nerve in the finger and I had problems with it for months afterwards when trying to play. Right now it's fine and I have no issues, and I hope my hubby's finger heals to the point he can play without pain. It's a bummer though.

Anyone else have an injury that hampered your guitar playing? And what did you do to get past it?

Yes Susan all the time as i am a Carpender i normally play through the pain, if its a slice i would use super glue it 🤬

If the complete tip has come off o dear, middle or ring finger would be worse than the index finger with a bandage,

hope it heals soon.

I cut my fretting ring finger a few weeks ago. Absolute panic! I thought there goes all my practice hours! I practiced with a bandaid on anyway.

Sounds like it’s time to learn how to play slide guitar.

@jerseychicadee You'd use a slide "tube" on the finger, like this one. 😀

Shoot me now!  Sliced my pinky pad straight across with the blade to my mandolin (the slicer kind) FML! I was being so careful but not enough. I’m burning that SOB! That slide bar is looking a lot better right now!
