Found some tab with some good cross picking.
Real fun to play if you're into Billy Strings.
I could maybe play this real slow, LOL. Don't think I'll ever get up to Billy Strings speed. He's crazy fast.
I’ve been working on scales today with Devin’s Fast Backing track. Just going up and down, skipping strings, trying to make patterns, arpeggios. Trying to get the moving up and down on the neck thing going. So sloppy. Had to slow way down and work my way back up a little at a time. Quit for a bit and when I went back it was a little better. Small steps! Or stumbles
The crosspicking will get faster as time goes on. Some of it is about staying in the up down rhythm and if you miss a note just keep going
Yeah, I just started playing it slow and then started picking up speed. I must have played this for about 2 weeks straight and now I can play it pretty smooth.
Thanks for the tab! I'm always looking for new songs. Anything to get my picking better!
I think a good beginner cross picking lesson is Red River Valley. I'm having some success with that one and building up confidence.
I’ve got Banks if the Ohio down now. Able to play clean at Devin’s speed!!!
Now on ward to Red River Valley!
Did you try Red River Valley? Devin had two versions, one was the Carter Style and then the other was a cross picking version. The Carter style version was fairly easy and the cross picking was a step above that, I thought.
I started it today. It took me two weeks to get Banks of the Ohio up to speed. Slow and steady. Lol
Cross Picking is a challenge. Having a really good feel for where each string is is tripping me up. One day I can do it and the next I'm just stumbling all over the place. Sigh.
I’m liking the cross picking and Travis picking. (I think because I’m on a John Prine trip right now.) Following dead singers road trip in my head!
Isn’t that odd about one’s muscle memory being spot on one day and the off the next. Definitely have experienced that!
My problem is I’m working on about five at once. But, I put a ton of hours in. Really enjoying White Frightliner. Geez I love MollyT’s playing, singing, and songwriting. It’s inspiring.
I feel I need to learn/listen to more JohnP JerseyChick, so you’re inspiring me.
I agree, White Freightliner is a good one!
