I finally got my first Martin. I feel so grown up.
Got a 1979 D 35 for one year... a new life for me!!
I’ve scrimped and scrimped. It’s a cheap one as far as Martin goes but I got it!! Amazed myself. Dream come true
@jerseychicadee A cutaway Martin with a sunburst - now those are two features that one normally doesn't associate with Martins.
Check out this Skeleton Key Tuners too. Lots of subtle appointments on this guitar. This is a big guitar for me. I’m most comfortable with small parlor shapes. Dreadnoughts are just too big for my body. I end up playing them more as a “pseudo” lap steel guitar. I catch myself wanting to tilt this one all the time. I’m trying to train myself to hold the guitar better. Working on that left thumb placement constantly. I can’t play standing up because I’m an old, fat, too-tired nurse with bad knees, shoulders and back. The Taylor 326 I have has a bigger belly than the Martin but I’m in love with that deeper baritone it projects. I’m also catching myself playing at the bottom of the fretboard and have to watch that I stay over the sound hole.
@jerseychicadee Cool tuners for sure J.C. I thought I was strictly a dreadnought player, but when I bought my undersized sister a Taylor Mini GS and she said, thanks, but no thanks, I found that the smaller fret size on the Mini helped increase my speed enormously. Like you J.C., my hand tends to gravitate towards the end of the fretboard too. It's weird because a lot of videos I see of guitarists have them picking the strings closer to the bridge side of the sound hole. Anyways, I'm glad my sister said no to the Mini GS.
I’ve had my eye on a GSMini Koa for a while but there’s a Martin 00012-e Koa I’ve had on my guitar list for awhile. I’m a better guitar ‘buyer’ than a guitar ‘player’ but since my last 2 purchases in June I’ve been pretty satiated with the Martin SC and the Taylor 326 I bought.
Satiated J.C. Great word! What is this compulsion to acquire more guitars? I've been afflicted by it and I've only taken up guitar these past three years. At age 67 no less. My first guitar was a J-15 and then I got this used GS Mini Hog, which my sister turned down and yet I still crave a D-18. The Satin ones are less expensive than the Gloss ones, but are they as good? You see J.C., I'm obsessed.
@jerseychicadee Just so you know Jerseychicadee, I plan on being less active on the Forum next month, taking up less space, giving the rest of CGO a chance to win the January contest, stepping back a bit - I have to go away part of the month anyways so good luck and all the best for 2024.
@jambongris well, you’ll be missed. I’m glad the forum is back to the old pace and speed it once was and you’ve set the mark for all to follow! I’ll be around, not for the prizes but because I enjoy the Play-along with Devin as my primary practice regimen. I’m here for long term. lol. I’d like to see the contest winners be chosen randomly from the top 10-20-50 members. So many of our members don’t have time to spend on every post made.

@jerseychicadee Great idea J.C. That would make things less competitive and a random draw might make more people stick around and contribute for the duration of the contest. Maybe we should pitch the idea to Devin. I need to get back to spending more time in the play-along as you call it and setting learning goals for 2024. I gotta try out the new forum microphone feature too.
@jambongris Hi guys, honestly I got into the game a little by chance ... but i'm not crazy about competitions , actually it's the first time i 've done this ... I also plan to play guitar more than to write on the forum! Sure I'm happy when I see the gifts, but then I'll leave the chance to other members...
@thib Yeah, well you say you got into the game a little by chance, but you and John and jerseychickadee have been active on the forum for a while before I arrived on the scene as a Johnny Come Lately. I mean, you've already made two recordings on this platform and I've done diddly squat. Anyways, wishing you health, happiness and prosperity and of course great music for 2024.
