Any players out there with a Martin D-35 or HD-35?
The D-18s and D-28s and their variants are great measuring stick Martins. No doubt the Bluegrass standard bearers.
I guess I'm looking for just a bit more "pop" and sibilance that I believe the 35s provide? I'm thinking especially when fingerstyling or flatpicking. Granted, I'm getting heavily influenced by all of you bluegrass and country types. A month ago, I was convinced that a Taylor 814ce was in my future. Now I'm itching for a Martin. I'm not ready to pay the price of the higher end Martin 40-series or Collings or Bourgeois or SantaCruz and wouldn't mind saving money by not going the 814 route.

👍
Right now I'm happy with my Martin D-18!
For sure - it’s an absolute classic.
I gravitate towards Rosewood over Mahogany so I’d probably be more in the 28 camp. But both are the standard bearers for good reason.
I hope to join your club some day soon Susan!
Ha - I get that for sure.
Cost - right now I’m playing a Fender acoustic that I’ve got sounding quite nice with upgrades but I’m ready to move up. Heck, I got the Fender for $250 used. I’m selling off other hobby items so I can afford a Martin 6-string and I’d like to get a decent 12-string too.
I have a new Fender Alkaline Trio Malibu. Got it on eBay for $215! Plays nice. I had to set it up. Then I just had to have a Taylor. I found a 2 month old Academy 12-e on Craigslist for $450. An old Guy bought it in January, took 2 lessons and died. I still guitar shop every day!! Never satisfied with what I have. Lol
@jerseychicadee Oh my, you have the same malady I have - GAS, or Guitar Acquisition Syndrome. It happens to a lot of us. 😲
I've been thinking about getting a Gibson for a while now, but I've got a 2008 Martin Custom to sell first. Unfortunately it's kind of hard to sell things right now with all the Covid-19 crap going on. If Guitar Center is open I might see about trading in the Martin for a Gibson. Hmmm . . .
The Guitar Center here is open for curb side. I’ve thought about trading in this Taylor I have. I’m not thrilled with it at all
Curbside? Like order online and then pick it up at the curb? Kind of takes the fun out of the whole Guitar Center shopping experience. I like to pick up the most expensive guitar that's not locked up and play it, LOL. Also just try different brands just to see what they're like.
Yea I like to Go in the ‘special’ room and touch them all. I was surprised last time I was in there. The stock on display in the main acoustic room was really sparse. I guess all the COVID warriors (like me) bought up all the guitars. They had the Taylors all locked up. Must be a popular snatch and run in Fresno. I had my 7 year old grand with me. I handed her a ukulele and that kept her busy enough.
@jerseychicadee You live in Fresno? For some reason I thought you might live in New Jersey. 😉
When I was a kid we lived in Tulare and then Kingsburg. Going to Fresno was going to "the city," LOL.
