Random Music Theory Question

Hey ya'll!

Maybe this isn't the right spot to ask this question... but I've had a burning Music Theory question that I can't seem to find the answer to. Basically, I've gotten pretty decent at reading music (not tab, but actual music) up until the third or fourth fret. Past the 4th fret, I wouldn't know how to write any notes on a staff, or read any notes that are supposed to be played there either. Hopefully this question makes sense, but how would you know when reading music, if the note you are supposed to play is on the 2nd fret, or the 10th? If this is too unrelated to bluegrass feel free to take down, but I thought it would be worth a shot 🙂

I use this visualization chart that I found online. I'm not sure if it will help with your question, but I think it will.

I tried to attach a PDF, but it wouldn't let me.  Here is the link:  https://egalo.com/guitar

It's the guitar fretboard visualization chart toward the bottom of the page.
