I’ve tried several different acoustic guitar strings over the years and I think I’ve just found my new favorite strings so I thought I’d post a quick demo video so you can check them out!. You can watch the demo video below and you can find the strings at https://woodtonestrings.com.

Dude! You’re killing me! That was great! When I put those on I’ll sound just like that, right! In my dreams at least! They do sound pretty awesome though. Ordering up a couple sets. You know I’ve been struggling to like that Taylor of mine, maybe these will help!
Yep, you’ll sound just like this if you get these strings! haha. Glad you ordered a couple sets! I haven’t tried them on a Taylor yet… let me know how that goes!
I haven’t bonded with this Taylor at all. The voice is just buzzy. I’m hopin’ these bring it down some or else I’m gonna sell it. I’ve wanted a Taylor since they started making them. I’m gonna put a set on this little Art & Luthiere Roadhouse I picked up this weekend. Love the way it sounds.
I need new strings, so just ordered a set myself.
Nice I hope you like them!
Hey Devin, have you tried them on your collings? Just wondering how they sound with rosewood. Thanks
Hi Kate! Yep, I have tried them on the Collings and my Atkin and I think they sound really nice with rosewood also.
I didn’t know you had an Atkin Devin. How do you like it? Is it on any of your videos here?
Yep, I got it pretty recently! It’s a really nice guitar. Alister really does a nice job building them.. I’d put it up there with Collings and all the other boutique guitars I’ve tried. You can hear it in this Molly Tuttle guitar lesson https://countryguitaronline.com/flatpicking-in-the-style-of-molly-tuttle/ and on some other more recent lessons
I tried an Atkin earlier this year – an OM with rosewood b&s but not sure of the model name. Tone was incredible with huge projection, but the neck too chunky for my small hands. Could barely make a g chord, let alone any barre chords! great sounding guitar though.
Always wondered how many guitars you have Devin? As of today anyway 😉
Great playing also. Did I hear Nose on the Grindstone in there…
You did, good ear! Love that song. I’m right in the middle of recording the next lesson covering some Tyler Childers “Nose on the Grindstone” chord embellishments and fills.. figured I’d add it in the Woodtone demo since I’ve been playing it a lot lately!
Excellent, really looking forward to that lesson!
Haha well I just put new strings on my guitar so maybe next time. Bridge pins worked good though!
Enjoyed your sound. Not keen on the coating on strings, I don’t feel as “in touch” but they do sound warm but I wonder if that’s the mahogany on the d18. What do you think?
I use light specials from d’addario, same guage I think, same idea anyway between medium and light. I like phosphor bronze for country or 80/20 for more bluesy stuff
Devin, Have you used straight up strings? I heard they’re good for bluegrass. I started working on a guitar break Billy Strings Does on an old Randall Collins song and came across straight up strings. Was curious if you used them and what you thought.
I’ve tried Straight Up Strings also. They have a pretty nice feel to them but the Straight Up String gauges are a bit strange. Could be worth trying them out but I still like the Woodtone Strings a lot better between the two.
Cool,
Thanks for the feed back Devin. I have a Taylor 214CE that had the Standard Elixir Strings that comes with Taylors and then I took the guitar in to get setup and they put the Daddario Coated strings on that feel a little thinner. I’m playing a lot of Billy Strings these days and just wanted to see what strings you think might be best for that style. You’re a flat picking beast so I figured you would be a good one to ask.
What size string on the Woodtone Strings should I get? I’m gonna give them a go.
Nice! Right now, they just have the Country Series strings that are gauged between lights and mediums. They told me they’re coming out with a “Bluegrass Series” set of strings soon an also standard lights and standard mediums. I think they should have those for sale in a couple months. Hope you like the strings!
Sounds good, Thanks Devin.
We hear Tennessee Waltz right ? Are there all the tabs of what you play on the site ?
Be well,
Jack.
Sold! You them to provide a promo code “CGO” =@)’
And… super nice Tennessee Waltz arrangement! wow.
Great idea… they set up a 10% discount for us — you can use the code “CGOTEN”. Hope you like the strings!
Hi Devin.
Please Give me “Big Sandy River” Lesson.
Hey Devin. What’s that drop D intro you’re playing? I like it, but I don’t recognize it as one of your previous lessons.
Been playing for 35 years. Have owned Martin D28 an D35. Also Taylor 814. Recently switched to Gibsons because the shorter scale length is easier on my old hands. I put the Woodstone Country’s on my Gibson LOO and was amazed how much it improved the sound. Can’t wait to put them on my J45. Try them. I believe they’ll bring out the best in any acoustic guitar.
I ordered 2 sets of the Country series and one set of the Blue Grass series, can’t wait to try them.
As a beginner should I be starting on extra lights or can I comfortably go to Country set of woodtones? Finger strength and tone are my concern.
Lights should be fine. Don’t see any reason to go “extra”. Whatever you use, you will get used to quickly.
I think I read that Woodtone is coming out with lights very soon. But in the mean time I will keep working on strength. The country set sounds good when I first start but finger fatigue sets in fairly soon and the sound goes with it. Maybe though it is the better way to increase strength.
What are the name of the songs you’re playing at 3:45 and 5:30?
Thanks
Sweet, just ordered 5 packs for shipping to Norway, will pitch these to my local dealer as well if it sounds as good as in the vid 🙂
Well, I broke out a new set of strings for my Gretsch Penguin Parlor, Penny.
Habe mir die Saiten jetzt bestellt. In Germany sind sie nicht zu bekommen. Bin richtig gespannt wie sie auf meiner Martin D28 klingen.
I have ordered the strings now. They are not available in Germany. I’m really curious how they sound on my Martin D28.
Dear Devin, where can I find the pieces you play in this video. That’s exactly what I want to play.
I love these strings so much I put them on all my dreadnoughts. These strings really sound fuller and are very lively
I have a number of guitars and I think these guitar strings sound way better than any other string I can think of. Where there was weak bass before, there is a nice deep bass and so on. These strings make a big difference. Anything made on a small scale is better than mass produced stuff
