By no means am I claiming mastery of White Freightliner yet but my truck’s putting along. 
The whole plateau and breakthrough discussion we had awhile ago. I think I started with Whiskey Before Breakfast and worked on that pretty hard. A few others that I’m still working on like Nine Pound Hammer, Blackberry Blossom, and St Anne’s Reel. I like classic bg tunes in case I have to play them in ensemble. But thinking of those flat picking classics as daily exercisss have helped quite a bit. I play each 2-5X/day.

But my point of offering the comment was to give an example of “what might work for you too”. The Whiskey Before Breakfast muscle memory that one builds makes flat-picking songs like the others easier. 

What’s really odd is I really like the capo up around the 5th though! Who‘da thunk that one? 

I’m finding the 4th fret seems to help me with singing key too. Yeah, I’m an octave below MollyT & DonHenley but it’s a comfortable range. I start my day working on WhiteFreightliner and leave the capo there for awhile...

I find that doing Eric Reinhardt style playing is easier than Molly Tuttle style 🤣

@jerseychicadee yep just learn some of the chord embellishments and a few bluegrass riffs and then do what feels right lol
