@jambongris Yes I like to play salt Creek, it was the first tune learned on CGO, it's almost the only one I play entirely from memory, sometimes quickliy, but it 's remain rare when there is not a single error.

A few days ago I repaired an old Banjo - Mandoline , I'm still waiting new strings, but with guitar strings I tested it, and I think it 'll be cool to learn melodies

@thib Up next for me are the two solos for Salt Creek. Hoping to approach Devin's speed and accuracy, but need to take it slow at first and commit to memory. I know this is a favourite of yours Tibo.

@thib We're having cold, snow, then rain, then mild weather, which what our winters here in Ottawa have been like the last few years. Climate change. Browns Ferry Blues lead break is, more or less, just one riff played twice. It does take a lot of practice to get to sound the way Devin plays it. I'm not close to that yet.

@jambongris Yes you're right... searching new songs on CGO, I listened to Brown's Ferry Blues... and I think it is my next goal!

Sunday it snowed 1 meter of fresh snow so my arms are a little tired 😓 😓

@thib Devin's rating system is subjective. Some of his lessons, like Texas Swing Rhythm, should be rated higher, IMO and others like Over the Waterfall could be a 3.5 instead of a 4. One of these days I want to try Man of Constant Sorrow, but to me right now it is a 5+. Speaking of Big Sciota, this tune is infectious and after hearing it the first time, it got stuck in my head so I had to learn it.

@jambongris Black berry blossom, Big Sciota and east tennesse blues are all rated 4,5/5 in difficulty ... the most difficult we can find in CGO you like big challenges! 😉

@thib The play through on these early lessons is not as "user friendly" as the current ones. The "guitar tablature" option is a bit easier to follow here. Blackberry Blossom basically has three parts: the first part, which is similar to the guitar break in Whiskey Before Breakfast, the second part, which is the pinky workout in the higher register and the third part, which is the easiest of the three. I can play it from memory, but have not polished it enough to feel confident in getting in the water to make a recording on the Forum microphone. Maybe sometime in the near future though. Other lessons I am enjoying learning these days are Big Sciota and East Tennessee Blues. Glad to hear that you are getting back into the swing of things Tibo!

@jambongris Hi Michael, I'm starting to look into it.... woaw there is work!! Do you play the entire tune? It's a bit hard to work on the tablature in one go, more rencent lessons are "easier"to follow.

Don't hesitate to make a recording to show us where you are with it!

Unfortunately, i'm not able to play it.... I'm trying but hybrid picking or picking is a goal for me but very difficult. I'm trying freight train for a long Time without good results...

@thib Railroad Bill requires skills (hybrid picking) that I do not possess, not to mention the vocalizing aspect. Well done you for learning it Tibo! I hope that "all the problems you've had for some time" are soon to be resolved and you can get back to being one of the best country/bluegrass guitar player/luthiers in Grenoble.
