I’ve often thought that when listening to a song. I can hear the pick when I play if I’m not concentrating right. I can correct it quickly if I try. Just a sloppy habit. 

I have the same issue sometimes. Very annoying. I haven't figured out what causes it. Maybe too stiff

When I started I had read to start with a light pick, so I bought about a hundred 0.5-0.8mm picks.  Now I buy 1-2.5 mm even couple 3mm.
