I tend to buy lots of strings at once. I've had strings rust in their packaging from long storage but that's exceptional. Chances are your strings are fine. Rust will be obvious once you open them. No dark spots, no rust, install and enjoy.

@rinny51 I think so, haven't even opened the package yet. Guess if they were dull and/or rusty they wouldn't be any good for playing.

I think if they are unused they should be fine. Normally they go bad from dead skin cells and oils from your fingers. Do the still look shiny?

@jerseychicadee I read that somewhere that you could do that if you wanted to take an old set off of your guitar and boil them to try and get some new life out of them. Probably won't do that, LOL.
