Then I went crazy for it a few years later with my first steel string Yamaha and didn't look back for 20 years. I was into the singer songwriter thing, and rarely ventured past the 3rd fret and generally avoided bar chords other than F.  Just Had a ten plus years break. Kids, work, etc. Still had a guitar, but barely touched it for many years which made me feel guilty, but you can't force it. I believe in the old "If you love something, set it free. If it comes back it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was."

About six months ago It came back and I couldn't be without it now.

I got a new job, got married and we had a couple of kiddo's, so guitar wasn't in the picture for a while.  Tried again on my own about 10 years ago and played a little a church, but I still wasn't that good.  Now that my kids are older now,  I purchased my Taylor last Fall (2019) and decided that I wanted to take a serious run at really learning and started attending an open bluegrass jam and fell in love with the bluegrass style.  I also started taking private lessons again with a local professional musician who is actually a fiddle player and plays a little guitar.  It's more "music lessons" than it is guitar lessons with him.  We mostly concentrate on Rhythm, timing, counting music, etc which I finally figured out was my problem. It works out well, because most of the time he is playing the fiddle so that forces me to take up the slack on the guitar side.  That plus playing with others that are a lot better players than myself  and the lessons here CGO have really seemed to be a good combination for me....

Attending the Pickin' in the Pines show last year really impressed me as far as the musicians' talent, and I thought "I'd really like to be able to play like that someday." There's just so much to learn and skills to gain, and someday will never come if I don't get serious about it!

I tried to play a little prior to that after I was injured in military, but mentally couldn’t stick with anything at that point. 
But I’m hooked now and here to stay.
