About Country Guitar Online

Hi, my name is Devin and I am the creator of Country Guitar Online. This website has been somewhat of a work in process, but it is finally starting to come together. I really appreciate all of the positive feedback and encouragement from all of you along the way!

So anyways, here's a little about me...I grew up in Texas and that is where I still live today. I love everything about the Texas Hill Country. I began studying music at a young age when my parents signed me up for piano lessons. I took piano lessons for about seven years but then I discovered the guitar. I immediately loved it and I switched my focus entirely. As of now, I've been playing guitar for about 15 years or so. I started out playing blues, rock, and pop, but then I later became obsessed with learning country songs and country lead guitar licks. This eventually led me to bluegrass which is my favorite thing to play these days. I love the bluegrass sound and the challenge of flatpicking.

I played in a band in high school and I have played around Texas here and there with various musicians, but I haven't played out much lately. My favorite thing to do is sit around and just practice. I would do it all day if I could get away with it :)

Teaching guitar is another one of my passions. About a year ago, I got the idea to create a website with free guitar instructional videos and eventually Country Guitar Online was born. I remember when I was first starting out, it seemed like it was always tough to find quality lessons at a reasonable price. That's why I plan to keep these lessons free for everyone now and in the future. I've spent a lot of time putting these lessons together and I really hope they have helped you progress as a guitar player. If you ever have any thoughts on ways to improve the lessons, feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I am always open to suggestions.

Recently, I have begun posting some videos from a few of my favorite guitar instructors on the internet. These instructors have taught me a lot along the way and hopefully their lessons will do the same for you. If you have any song requests, check out the song request box on the right sidebar of the site. I've gotten several requests, but I will do my best to put together a lesson for you as soon as possible. Also be sure to join the brand new forum! I am really excited about this new feature and I think it will be a great way for you to network with other guitar players from around the world. Follow me on Twitter and find me on Google+. So anyways, thanks for stopping by and thanks again for all of you support. See you at the lessons!

A Woman Like You - Lee Brice Part 1 of 2
In Part I of this lesson series, I'll show you how to play the intro to A Woman Like You by Lee Brice. I spent some time getting this one pretty exact. The intro is a little more difficult that the other parts of the song, but it's worth learning for sure! If you want to learn the rest of the song after the intro, check out Part II of this series.
Bluegrass Riff
This video is just a sample of the bluegrass hybrid picking style I'll be teaching in the near future. The picking technique gives the guitar a really cool banjo-like sound.
Ben Clark's Bag O' Flatpicking Licks
Here's a lesson from my favorite guitar teacher on the web - Banjo Ben Clark. I've been getting several requests to put together some bluegrass lessons, but until I'm able to record my own, I'll refer you to Banjo Ben. I would highly recommend checking out banjobenclark.com. In this video he teaches some awesome flatpicking licks to add to your collection.
Walk Softly - Kentucky Headhunters
Walk Softly On This Heart Of Mine is kind of a cross between southern rock and country. The Kentucky Headhunters have a unique style. Although this song songs the best on electric guitar, it also sounds great on acoustic.

John Hardy Bluegrass Flatpicking
Here's another great bluegrass lesson from Banjo Ben Clark. In this guitar lesson, Ben teaches a classic way to play the song John Hardy. This is a great tune that allows you to develop greater precision with your right hand. It combines bluegrass guitar rhythm techniques with flatpicking. Be sure to check out banjobenclark.com for more lessons from Ben.
You and Tequila - Kenny Chesney
In this lesson I'll show you how to play You and Tequila by Kenny Chesney featuring Grace Potter. This song has been one of my favorite country songs since it came out. It has a great rhythm and I always find myself turning up the radio when it comes on. The song never gets old.
Somethin Bout A Truck - Kip Moore Part II
In part I of this lesson series, I'll focus a lot on how to play the intro to the acoustic version of Somethin Bout A truck by Kip Moore. This intro is challenging and it will really help improve overall pick control.
